The only means of connectivity on this printer is a hi-speed USB port 2.0 that is on the rear side of the printer. No other means; no ethernet, no wireless, no Bluetooth device is acceptable to the printer. However, the user can connect the mobile device to the USB port.
The minimum RAM for Windows XP is 128 MB, but a 256 MB RAM is a strong recommendation. While for Windows Vista, 512 MB is the minimum, but 1 GB is the recommended volume. Also, for both versions of Windows, ensure a 4w CD-ROM and Writer. The expected free disk space on either your Windows XP or Vista should be 600 MB or 850 MB respectively.
The HP Deskjet D1660 uses an Inkjet technology which requires Ink cartridges. But the type of cartridge depends on the region of use. In the America and Asia Pacific (excluding China, India, and Japan), it uses HP 60. Whereas in Western Europe, the required cartridge is HP 300. However, in Africa, Japan, Middle East and CIS, the required printer is HP 121. Finally, in China and India, the cartridge type is HP 818.
The resolution of various prints varies, depending on the system composition, or the complexity of the document. All the same, the print speed for plain paper at best is 600 x 600 dpi. Moreover, this resolution cannot be optimized even for colored printing. In fact, to print on a photo paper, the best resolution you can still get is a 600 x 600 dpi. Note: Do not connect the USB cable until requested by the installer. If you connect to the network, make sure the network cable is connected before running the installer
Windows
- Close all software programs running on your computer.
- Turn on the printer.
- Click the Download button on this page.
- Click the downloaded file. The files will be extracted and the installation process will automatically begin.
- Follow the instructions on the screen to continue and complete the installation.
Mac
- Download the file. For the location where the file is saved, check the computer settings.
- Double-click the downloaded file and mount it on the Disk Image.
- Then Double-click the mounted Disk Image.
- Double-click the packaged file in the folder. Installation starts automatically.
To install later, select Save in step 4 and choose a location on your hard disk. When ready to install, search and double-click the file. This will automatically extract and start the installation process. Follow the instructions on the screen to continue the installation.
