HP LaserJet Pro M402d is a very compact printer with dimensions of 15 x 14.06 x 8.5 inches, which is even less than some inkjet printers. Even though it compacts in size, it still weighs over 8.9 Kg which will increase if you also install an additional paper tray. It is an Energy Star certified product that operates on an input voltage of 220 to 240 VAC on a frequency of 50/60Hz. Despite its size compared to an inkjet printer, it consumes 591 Watts while printing, 6.1 Watts in ready mode, 2.8 Watts in sleep mode and 0.6 Watts in (Auto-on/Auto-off, via USB connectivity), and 0.1 Watts in off.
The single function monochrome laser printer uses the HP 26A or HP 26X Black LaserJet Toner cartridges which can print up to 3100 or 9000 pages. The cartridge that comes with the printer preinstalled can print up to 1500 pages. It supports the HP FastRes 1200 print quality with the HP PCL 5, HP PCL 6, HP postscript Level 3 Emulation, as well as some other print languages. It also has an Auto-Duplexing mode that allows you to print on both sides of the page, reducing paper usage by 50%.
This printer works smoothly on Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7, XP, as well as Mac OS X v10.8 – 10.10. It even has support for Linux OS, iOS, Android, and Windows. Note: Do not connect the USB cable until requested by the installer. If you connect to the network, make sure the network cable is connected before running the installer
Windows
- Close all software programs running on your computer.
- Turn on the printer.
- Click the Download button on this page.
- Click the downloaded file. The files will be extracted and the installation process will automatically begin.
- Follow the instructions on the screen to continue and complete the installation.
Mac
- Download the file. For the location where the file is saved, check the computer settings.
- Double-click the downloaded file and mount it on the Disk Image.
- Then Double-click the mounted Disk Image.
- Double-click the packaged file in the folder. Installation starts automatically.
To install later, select Save in step 4 and choose a location on your hard disk. When ready to install, search and double-click the file. This will automatically extract and start the installation process. Follow the instructions on the screen to continue the installation.
