Printer resolutions depend on printing mode, but the maximum resolution is up to 1200 x 1200 dpi for black printing. HP FastRes mode has a resolution of 600 x 600 dpi while HP ProRes has a resolution of 1200 x 1200 dpi. HP LaserJet Pro MFP M521dn driver compatible Operating systems include Mac OS X v10.6 that requires a PowerPC G4, G5 or Intel Core processor. Other requirements are 500 MB of disk space and CD/DVD ROM or Internet with a hi-speed USB or network port. The printer also supports Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7 and Windows Vista (32-bit/64-bit). These OS versions support 1 GHz processor, 1 GB of RAM (32-bit) and 2 GB of RAM (64-bit). It also requires a 400 MB hard disk space.
The printer uses a Laser print technology with only one cartridge that is black. The replacement cartridges are the HP LaserJet Black Cartridges CE255A and CE255X. Their print capacities are approximately 6000 and 12500 printed pages based on ISO/IEC 19752. The print languages are HP PCL 6, PCL 5, HP postscript level 3 emulation, PCL.
Although this printer has two standard trays for input and output respectively, it also uses an optional plate. This device has a variety of connectivity options which include the hi-speed USB 2.0 port and device. Also, there is 1 Gigabit Ethernet 10/100/1000Base-TX; 1 telecom; and 1 Phone.

Note: Do not connect the USB cable until requested by the installer. If you connect to the network, make sure the network cable is connected before running the installer
Windows
- Close all software programs running on your computer.
- Turn on the printer.
- Click the Download button on this page.
- Click the downloaded file. The files will be extracted and the installation process will automatically begin.
- Follow the instructions on the screen to continue and complete the installation.
Mac
- Download the file. For the location where the file is saved, check the computer settings.
- Double-click the downloaded file and mount it on the Disk Image.
- Then Double-click the mounted Disk Image.
- Double-click the packaged file in the folder. Installation starts automatically.
To install later, select Save in step 4 and choose a location on your hard disk. When ready to install, search and double-click the file. This will automatically extract and start the installation process. Follow the instructions on the screen to continue the installation.
